Join us this coming Monday, March 19th!

To kick off the upcoming CYO Emerald Knights Marching Band and Guard season, you are invited to attend the CYO Marching Band FREE spaghetti dinner and informational meeting on Monday, March 19th at 6:00 PM in the cafeteria at All Saints Catholic School – North Campus (formerly Holy Rosary School – corner of 22nd Ave. and 45th St.). CYO will provide the main dish, beverages and utensils. We ask that each family brings one side dish to pass. That way we can all experience the camaraderie that comes with being a part of the CYO “family.” During the meal you will have an opportunity to meet fellow potential band members and their families and get to know the instructors.

After dinner, we will have a short presentation explaining what it is like to be in the CYO Marching Band, what membership involves and hopefully answering any questions you may have. If you have never been a part of a marching band this is a GREAT time to ask questions and find out what it’s all about. We will have membership contracts available at this event and after the presentation we will be happy to accept contracts and deposits! We will also have our performance schedule available for everyone on that night.

Feel free to spread the word to anyone who might be interested in joining a marching band this summer. Members do NOT have to attend a Catholic or private school to be a part of our marching band, nor do they have to be regular members of CYO during the school year. All we ask is that students be entering 6th grade or higher for the 2012-13 school year and we will accept marchers up to age 21. We are also looking for students to join our color guard and work with our new color guard instructor this summer! There are incentives in place if we reach certain membership levels, so invite your friends!

Check out the event on Facebook!

Dear CYO Families, Friends and Fans,

Hello and welcome! My name is Geoff Poole and I am the new director for the CYO Emerald Knights Band and Guard. I am coming to Kenosha after spending three years as the 5-12 band director for the School District of Loyal in Loyal, Wisconsin. I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 2006 with my Bachelor of Music – Instrumental Education emphasis. My primary performing instrument is the trombone, but I love working with students on all sorts of different instruments. I have heard many tremendous things about the CYO Band in the past and I can’t wait to start working with everyone!

For the past month or so I have been working tirelessly with the executive board to get things started this year. We have held all of our Beginning Band recruitment nights over the past few weeks and just last night started our Concert and Honors Band rehearsals! If you haven’t done so already, now is the time to get registered for this year’s CYO Band programs!

Our payment structure has changed slightly this year and I would like to make everyone aware of the changes. Our Beginner and Cadet Bands will now be at the same price, $405 for the school year. This includes one small-group lesson and one full-group rehearsal each week, scheduled at the student’s school. The Concert and Honors Bands will be $495 for the school year. Concert and Honors Bands will rehearse twice a week as a full group, on Monday and Thursday evenings. Concert Band will rehearse from 5:00 to 6:00 PM and Honors Band will meet from 6:30 to 8:00 PM on those days. We are also offering separate private lessons for students enrolled in the CYO Band program. For just $250 for the entire school year, each student will receive one 30 minute lesson each week at St. Joseph High School. This is above and beyond any ensembles the student is already enrolled in and students OF ALL AGES are eligible for these lessons.

The Concert and Honors Bands are already underway, but it’s not too late to join! Go to www.cyomusic.org/join right now and fill out the registration form that is linked at the bottom of the page. (Unfortunately, we are no longer able to offer the St. Joseph Academy Band option, the CYO Choir or Guitar programs.) Mail in the form with payment and you’ll be all set! If you are unable to pay the dues right away, contact us about the FACTS program for monthly dues payments.

If you ever have any questions, comments or concerns please feel free to contact me right away. The CYO phone number is (262) 656-1610 or you can email me at cyomusic@gmail.com.

Thank you for your continued interest and support of the CYO Emerald Knights Band and Guard. I look forward to a great year!

Sincerely,

Geoff Poole

Director, CYO Bands

I figured that it might be a good idea to let you know a little bit about me, the new CYO Band Director. So, here is a quick bio for those of you who are curious about me. Enjoy!

-Mr. Poole

Geoff Poole grew up and went to school in Cambridge, Wisconsin. He graduated from Cambridge High School where he participated in band and choir, under the direction of Mrs. Rebecca Petersen and Mrs. Robin Apold respectively. He attended the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater and graduated with a Bachelor of Music – Instrumental Emphasis degree in December of 2006. While at UW-Whitewater, Geoff studied trombone under Mr. Steve Wiest. During his time in Whitewater, Geoff was selected to in a wide variety of ensembles, including the Whitewater Symphony Orchestra, Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Warhawk Marching Band, Jazz Band, the Trombone Zone, Trombone Choir, Early Music Ensemble and Concert Band. Geoff performed with the Symphonic Wind Ensemble during two separate tours to England and Scotland, including an invitation to perform at the International Wind Festival at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England.

After graduation, Geoff spent three years as the Band Director for the School District of Loyal in Loyal, Wisconsin. While working at Loyal he was responsible for lesson instruction and rehearsals for Beginning Band (5th grade), Elementary Band (6th grade), Junior High Band (7th and 8th grades) and High School Band (9-12th grades). He also directed the Loyal Marching Band through a full Summer parade season and for a field show in the Fall. In 2010 he organized a performance trip to Milwaukee for the Loyal High School Band to perform pre-game at a Milwaukee Bucks basketball game.

Geoff has been an active performer and educator with a wide variety of organizations since graduation. Since 2007, he has been an instructor and counselor at the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater Warhawk Band Camps for middle and high school students. He has performed with the University of Wisconsin – Marshfield/Wood County Concert Band, Jazz Band and Symphony Orchestra as well as the Marshfield Civic Band and has played with the chamber orchestra supporting the Central Wisconsin Chamber Chorale. Since moving to Kenosha, he has performed with the Belle City Brass Works of Racine and the Parkside Reunion Big Band. He is an active member of the Music Educator’s National Conference and the Wisconsin Music Educator’s Association. In July of 2010 Geoff was invited to participate in the WMEA Young Leadership Workshop in Waunakee, Wisconsin.

In addition to his musical background, Geoff is an Eagle Scout and has been an active member of the Boy Scouts of America for many years. He spent five summers working on staff at the Ed Bryant Scout Reservation near Mauston, Wisconsin. He is a Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow and has attended three National Order of the Arrow Conferences, the 2001 National Scout Jamboree and the 2008 ArrowCorps5 Service Project in the Bridger-Teton National Forest near Jackson, Wyoming.
